On 25 July, in a meeting held at the Kin Plaza Hotel in Kinshasa with support from ELAN, a group of local and international businesses from the renewable energy sector created a sectoral association. The “Association Congolaise pour les Energies Renouvelables et Décentralisées (ACERD)” adopted the association statutes and internal regulations and elected its first officers.
The association will work to promote the widespread adoption of renewable energy and increase access to off-grid electricity in DRC. It plans to engage with government to advocate for policies to stimulate the growth of the sector for the wider benefit of the economy and people of DRC.
Helping to foster industry groups that can represent and advocate for the industry fits with ELAN’s market systems development approach.
