Financial inclusion training for street vendors

Orange Money and ELAN RDC partnered to launch a pilot financial inclusion initiative specifically targeting street vendors. The program, which was started in August, looks to enroll street vendors as mobile money users and encourage them to save through their mobile money account rather than with informal saving practices.

ELAN RDC designed a community-based marketing approach to foster Mobile Money adoption among street vendors by leveraging the pre-identified leaders of the network of street vendors to ease product adoption. A past market survey showed that street vendors do save regularly, but informally. 45 street vendors and leaders were selected and trained on how to use Orange Money, as well as the basics of Marketing and entrepreneurship to equip them properly when talking to their peers about savings via Orange Money.
