Angel investing in DRC

In February ELAN RDC gave trainings to two very different audiences: first to investors interested in understanding the world of startup investing in more detail, followed by entrepreneurs seeking financing.

This training is one of recommendations from a research paper written by ELAN RDC (https://www.elanrdc.com/s/25-The-DRC-startup-ecosystem-and-its-challenges_formatting-n2nd.pdf) on the challenges in the DRC entrepreneurial ecosystem. In that paper difficulty in finding financing was flagged as one of the primary hurdles facing entrepreneurs. It appeared that local investors as well as entrepreneurs were not aware of the intricacies and particularities of startup investments. For investors, their knowledge gaps were mainly around the risks involved and the requirements of young and growing businesses. For entrepreneurs it was eye-opening to understand the requirements of becoming “investable” and being able to meet the demands of investors. The materials covered in the trainings are available here:

The training was held at Ingenious City, ELAN RDC partner and Seedstars ambassador in DRC, which is an incubation platform in Kinshasa. This training will be included in the toolbox for future startups as well as investors.
