Igniting DRC’s renewable energy industry
At the beginning of May, GOGLA and ACERD formalized reciprocal memberships. As a result, ACERD became a member of GOGLA and GOGLA became a member of ACERD, cementing a partnership that will hopefully pay dividends for the Congolese renewable energy sector.
GOGLA, the global association for the off-grid solar energy industry established in 2012, now represents over 140 members as a neutral, independent, not-for-profit industry association. With the right support, GOGLA believes that the off-grid solar market can scale to provide affordable solar power products and services to provide electricity to the 1 billion people currently living without energy by 2030.
ACERD, the Association Congolaise pour les Énergies Renouvelables et Décentralisées, is the first renewable energy industry association in the DRC. ACERD hopes to draw on GOGLA’s experience and apply it in the DRC to build sustainable markets and profitable businesses delivering quality, affordable products and services to as many customers as possible. ACERD’s members currently are principally focused either on small-scale solar systems or improved cookstoves. The official ACERD launch event is scheduled for June 5 in Kinshasa.
ACERD is also working with ÉLAN to co-host the first Congolese renewable energy investment forum scheduled for 2-3 July in Kinshasa. The event will feature panel discussions on the following topics:
Development prospects and opportunities
Business enabling environment
Investment in the sector
Consumer finance for renewable energy
Speakers offering multiple perspectives – including local and international renewable energy companies, private investors, non-profits, government agencies and multi-national organizations – will be on hand for a lively event.
If you or a company you know is interested becoming a member of ACERD, would like information on their launch event, or is interested in attending the investment forum, please reach out to ACERD directly via firstname.lastname@example.org.
